Why do simple visual pranks often work better than complicated ones?

I’ve always noticed that the best pranks are usually the simplest ones. A fake electrical outlet prank works mainly because people react automatically without thinking too much first. We tried something similar in an office once using a fake light switch sticker near the kitchen, and almost everyone pressed it at least once. The funny part wasn’t even the prank itself, but how naturally people expected it to work. After reading more about prank setups on OOHUB prank article, I realized small visual details make these jokes much more believable.
